Day 1 – London to Berlin aboard the Venice Simplon Orient Express

The glistening carriages of the iconic British Pullman adorned in umber and cream awaits your arrival at London Victoria station, for the beginning of your classic tour. Feel yourself unwind as your stewards, dressed in their immaculate uniform, welcome you on-board and show you to your seats. Sit back and relax as you depart London Victoria in the most glamourous fashion, before being whisked through the undulating hills of the North Downs. All the while you dine on a delicious Brunch with Bellini. As you arrive into Folkestone, staff are at hand to ease your transition to your coach for the journey to Cheriton and the onward journey on the Eurotunnel train to France. As you emerge from the channel tunnel and head to Calais station, you catch your first glimpse of the gleaming gold and blue carriages of the Continental Wagons-Lits.

Day 2 – Free time aboard the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express – Arrival into Berlin

Awake this morning to pastoral scenery as breakfast is served in your cabin at a time to suit you. Take this exclusive opportunity to explore this vintage train by daylight and perhaps enjoy a cocktail in the bar car or a glass of champagne in the Champagne Bar, accompanied by the enchanting tones from the resident pianist. A leisurely three-course lunch is served in one of the three wonderfully decorated restaurant cars, before an afternoon tea served in your personal cabin. All the while you admire the ever-changing view of the German countryside. All too soon it is time for you to disembark, as the train arrives in Berlin and you are transferred to your hotel for the next two nights, the legendary Hotel Adlon Kempinski (5 star), ideally situated in Berlin’s Mitte, beside the Brandenburg Gate.

Day 3 – Berlin

This morning after a leisurely breakfast make the most of your central location by exploring Berlin’s main highlights on foot. Perhaps start with one of Berlin’s most iconic symbols, the Brandenburg Gate, a striking piece of architecture which formerly acted as the city gate. Then stroll the short distance to the Reichstag, seat of the German government and also famous for its glass dome, designed by British architect Norman Foster, to symbolise Berlin as the new German capital. You might like to walk along the Unter den Linden, once Berlin’s showcase boulevard, to the famous border crossing site “Checkpoint Charlie” and the poignant remains of the Berlin Wall.

Alternatively, why not view Berlin from a different perspective, from the top of Alexanderplatz’s famous Berlin TV tower or from the leafy green Tiergarten, with its many interesting monuments, buildings and gardens, spread out over 200 hectares.

Day 4 – Berlin to Brussels via Cologne

Then make your way to Berlin Hauptbahnhof to board the high-speed ICE service to Cologne, where you change trains and continue to Brussels aboard another stylish ICE train. On arrival in Brussels you are making your own arrangements for the short journey to your overnight stay at the highly regarded Be Manos (5 star).

Day 5 – Brussels to London – Homeward bound

This morning after a leisurely breakfast you have a little time to explore some of this interesting city, before you make your way back to the station for the start of your journey home. Here you say farewell to Brussels and join the Eurostar service to London. Then let the train take the strain as you stretch out and savour the light meal and drinks included in your Standard Premier service.
